Although iOS 5 is not as drastic of an upgrade, as we saw with the IOS June 4, 2010, which provides some much needed improvements and interesting for users of IOS. Some are quiet and long-awaited and others seriously change the way you use your Apple device.
In that sense, perhaps the greatest of all is the addition of over-the-air updates, avoiding the need to tie the iPhone to a computer to synchronize. But there is more under the hood with this update, and we believe that users should be happy to connect your iDevice last. IMessage also adds a new way to stay in touch and a way to avoid the monthly allocation of operator messages.
A few improvements, simply make the user experience easier, as the integration of Twitter on the main Apple applications, basic image editing tools for the camera, and a partner notification system with memories that keep you informed with a look at the home screen.Small improvements abound, of course, some of which we have included here. We have not found all the "Easter eggs", however, and to find other changes, we will know in the comments.
We have documented many of the major changes here, but we have tried to limit coverage to the adjustments that will affect most users. Apple says there are more than 200 new settings for iPhone, iPhone and iPod Touch, and we will be covering many of the minor changes in features and how the messages in the coming weeks.
Available for free, iOS 5 is compatible with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, the two versions of the iPad, and models of third and fourth generation iPod Touch. Note that the quality of iOS 5 May vary by handset. When Apple released iOS 4 last year, many iPhone 3G users complain of the degradation of device performance after downloading the update (one group even filed a lawsuit). Apple fixed the problems especially with the release of IOS 4.2, but let's take a closer look at the way iOS 5 deals in the 3GS.
Notifications
Instead of pop-up menus to interrupt your work, a new notification center combining messages, missed calls, application updates, a stock ticker, and the current time in one place. You can access it by sliding your finger down from the top of the screen, and notifications will appear on the lock screen as well. You can then jump directly to the function of relationship of each notification and remove items by clicking the small X next to each line.
While not exactly original - the drop down menu has always been a distinctive feature of Android - the ability to view all notices in a place of iOS 5 is certainly welcome. Since the debut of the first iPhone is more than four years ago, the IOS reporting system has remained virtually unchanged so we were long overdue for an upgrade. Although simple, the pre-iOS 5 in the world, the operation of the current application can not be used until the message disappears. Worse, several messages in a row quickly become annoying. We believe that users will appreciate this small IOS, but the change to save time. , Back later this week to see how these features compare with Android notification.

Newsstand
This application will gather subscriptions to magazines at a central location. The concept is similar to iBooks, including an icon that looks like the platform at the local library journals. As you subscribe to a publication through a new channel on the App Store, new items are delivered in the background, eliminating the need to take them manually when published.
Kiosk iPhone success depends largely on the amount of reading you do in the smallest device, and the amount of digital content that you purchased through Apple, but it is a great way to have the content you want we offer. IPhone users will be most likely to benefit from the added screen real space and read magazines on the iPhone is now easier than ever. Notably, Apple has done something interesting with this application, allowing it to expand the user's home screen, as an application folder. The company does not allow third party applications to do this. All kiosk features will be available at launch. Let's add to this part of the review as we learn more.
Fortunately, users can now post photos on social networking without leaving the image gallery or camera application. It's a nice change, and that will end the need to take a picture, switch to the iPhone application for Twitter, and then send the photo. You will be able to add a location, the Twitter sync with your Twitter contact list directly from YouTube, Safari, and Google Maps.
When sending the first tweet from any of the designated applications, you can enter your Twitter information or create a new account. You also have the option to download the free Twitter client from the login screen - probably part of Apple's offering to get created with Twitter integration in iOS 5. While there are third party applications that might be a better option as a Twitter client (iOS 5 Twitter integration does not include navigation Twitter), we think users will appreciate the ability to quickly send a tweet.
You'll now be able to post directly to Twitter using many of Apple's main apps.

Safari The mobile version of Apple's web browser now has the option of reader that was announced at WWDC 2010. Instead of dealing with complex Web site designs, the reader streamlines multi-page items in a view RSS, and at the same time stripping the ads, but leaving photos. You can also send an e-mail the full text of a page in Safari to a contact (with IOS 4, you can just send a link).
The reader option is great for reading web pages with strange format, which gives a clear and iOS design optimized for reading articles. We believe that people will be very happy to have finally read off the Web site for a desktop computer, when there is no option available phones. Our only problem is that the reader can be removed out too - we often see comments about an article, but the reader considers unnecessary.
In other news from Safari, tabbed browsing is now available on the iPhone and you can add a Web page a list of reading for future reading on any device IOS. This last feature saves a story in their reading list until I have time to read it, and can be synchronized across multiple devices Safari. Be sure to check our entry exploring the iPad iOS 5 Donald Bell.
The Reader view looks very clean, and you can adjust font size for easier reading.

Reminders
Furthermore, this practice allows you to store multiple to-do lists with dates of each event reminders can be categorized by location GPS. For example, if you have a reminder of "call home when I go to work", the application will use GPS to pinpoint when in motion and send the notice through push notifications. Reminders can be shared between devices and sync iCal with CalDAV on the Mac, Windows and MS Exchange. The application has its own sleek and scroll calendar, so you can browse or add new tasks and reminders for future dates.
We tested the reminder for the location to have that say "Do not forget your iPad" once he left the building here at CNET. Indeed, the iPhone reminded us once we got a block and a half of construction. You may also have to remind you to do something to get to a place such as "call Mom when I get home." These will be very useful for those of us who do not remember all the details.
Navigation through reminders is very easy with a home page where you can track and search for reminders with a search field. You also have the option to create more jobs for reminders, open-ended, that does not have to be done by a certain time. We believe that Apple did an admirable job with this application, but we believe that many of the multitude of things to make applications in the iTunes App Store offers more options. For simple reminders and tasks, however, the use of reminders, it is probably sufficient for most users.

Camera
iOS 5 adds several features required for the implementation of the camera, making it much more like a point and shoot camera. You get a shortcut on the lock screen that the camera will start immediately, even ignoring the lock code. A simple double-click the Start button opens both basic music controls (as above) and the camera icon at the bottom right. You can then use the volume control to take a picture. The image is stored in the camera roll, but for security (which does not use the access code) will only be able to remove the shot (to keep unwanted users from viewing your photos iPhone). Inside the chamber to get the grid lines, pinch to zoom (plus a slider in the bottom of the screen), autofocus and the ability to change the exposure.
After taking photos, you can edit your photos with cropping, rotating, red eye reduction, and a touch of color correction option. The features let you crop crop images with a box of variable size, or you can restrict the aspect ratio to have a standard size. Turn options allow you to rotate an image in 90 degree increments so you do not have to worry about photos aside. Red-eye reduction is a simple process that has to select the red eye tool, then touch the subject's red eyes for instant results and impressive. The only touch of color correction tools and balances the colors in our tests, indeed, that the picture will look better. While we welcome these additions, Apple is too late to the party photo editing, as this functionality has existed in basic phones for years. Also, while we like the basic editing functions, we doubt that will mean the demise of third-party applications like Photoshop Express.

Drag the corners of the box to change crop size, or use the constrain button to keep aspect ratio.

Mail
The email application is now iOS Rich Text Format, Best Screenplay, control, signaling messages and the ability to drag addresses from To, CC and BCC lines. In addition, you can now search within the body of a message rather than just the From, To and Subject lines.
Mail to IOS has required many of these features for a long time, so it's good to finally have them. Marks emails as important will certainly help business people. The selection tool (when you double click a word and drag the selection anchor) are still a bit awkward to use - especially for large blocks of text, and it is important to note that you must select the text to apply the rich text formatting (bold, italic and underlined once selected options). However, these are the steps to follow for the mail application, and users will appreciate the changes.
One of the things on our wish list for a future version of IOS is for the mail to get features Safari Reader. With iOS 5 still encountered the occasional e-mail with your own special format that the application did not meet eye to use the smaller screen. Given the amount of email from people who read not your IOS devices, this would be a welcome addition.

Icloud free PC
Perhaps the most notable change, free PC take you through the air software updates and activations of the device. Just as Android, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry OS 5 devices, you no longer have to connect the device to a computer or even have a computer at all. The updates only serve to change, so it will be shorter, and you will be able to synchronize, backup and restore your device with new features in icloud. You'll also find new features in applications, such as editing photos wirelessly, manage mail folders, and the creation and deletion of the orioles.
To synchronize the IOS device to iTunes on your computer, just to be on the same Wi-Fi and the device has to be loaded (connected to a charger). You can then go to Settings> General on your iPhone to select iTunes Wi-Fi Sync. From there you can select Sync now on your iPhone and your photos, music, calendars and will be supported in iTunes.
While it is not pretty or particularly novel (especially with so many other smartphones that offer the same features), excess air updates may be the most important of all for IOS in this update. We have heard many stories from users complaining about synchronization times and not having the phone attached to your computer for long periods will be appreciated by all. We will add more details on using icloud explore further.
Game Center
Additions for iOS 5 players include the addition of profile photos, the ability to compare achievement points, friends lists of friends, friends recommended and games, support for turn-based games, and a way to buy games directly from Game Center.
We like the personal touch of adding a photo to our profile in the Game Center, but we believe people should have more entertainment options for customizing pages (it is "game" the Centre, after all). Recommendations of the game (on the basis of the current library) seems pretty solid, but we did find some games on the list that was previously deleted. The ability to buy games from within the Centre game makes it a bit more of a destination, but it still seems that the service will remain a social connector that is behind the camera as it was in iOS 4.
Game Center now recommends games based on your current game library.

IMessage
Apple has a chance with this BlackBerry instant messaging application that works on all iOS 5 devices. As with BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), you will be able to exchange unlimited text, pictures and videos with your friends, family and colleagues. In addition, messages will not cost you anything and will not count against the allowance of the messages from your wireless service provider.
You also get group messages, an indicator to see if someone is writing to you, delivery and read receipts, encryption, synchronization and conversation that is pushed to multiple devices. IMessage work on 3G networks and Wi-Fi.
Updates to iPhone messaging system are positive changes, with some new features to mimic what other manufacturers pay chat applications on the iTunes App Store already do. We're a little disappointed that with the location and shared contacts do not come directly from IMessage (you need to share from the application map or contacts) that are found in third party applications. However, the ability to send data to a friend is an improvement. For example, to send a contact, you must go to the Home screen, open the contacts, select a person, select the action contact, then click IMessage. It would have been better if we could open the contact list directly from IMessage. Let's compare these characteristics in greater depth to BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) this week.
You'll now be able to add an address to a message and see when the other person is typing.

Finding friends
Announced at the launch of iPhone 4S, find my friends is a 5-exclusive IOS application that lets you see the locations of their friends and family in real time on a map when you are committed to sharing location information with you. For added security, you can set a time limit for the time to share their location, one of the main concerns of people do not want to continuously transmit their location.
You start signing with your iTunes account name, then you can send an invitation to your friends using your iTunes account ID. Once received, you will need to send a request to you too. After everyone has given permission, will be able to obtain an approximation close enough to where your friends are on a map. In tests conducted in San Francisco, our situation would be very accurate in a street, then another location would be a block from where we stood. The application seems pretty accurate, but your mileage may vary depending on where you use it.
Friends find a list of friends, so once you have given permission, you may submit a request at a later date for that person to allow their location to be shared. The application also has options to give instructions to your friends (via maps) or talk to them FaceTime (iPhone 4 or later) if you can not get an exact location.
While these types of characteristics of location could be useful in specific situations, Android has similar services that have received mixed reviews - specifically for those who were concerned about security issues. However, with the ability to specify a time limit, we have to find my friends will be useful to many people.

Cards
A new application delivery greeting card was also made available on the iTunes App Store with the iOS 5 release. Card allows you to design a card in your IOS device from Apple and have to print on high quality paper (yes, it is the actual role) and send it to your intended recipient. The service has a price, however, will pay $ 2.99 to send a card in the U.S. and $ 4.99 to send a card anywhere in the world.
Start making a greeting card by touching the Create button. Then choose from several different cards exterior designs offer appropriate season or event. At the bottom of the interface are icons to narrow your search for travel related to the cards, birthday cards, and some others. Once the outside is selected, you can take a new photo with the iPhone camera or add a photo from your iPhone library to customize the card. You can then edit the text inside the card to personalize it to your friend or family member. Finally, you add the recipient's address on the front of the envelope and return address. Do not worry too much about the mistakes that have buttons on top of the screen for each stage of the process: On the exterior, interior, and envelopes. When finished, you can review your selections and then make the purchase with your Apple account.
There are several services (or applications Postcardly as postcards Real) that allow you to send postcards, but iOS 5 sends greeting lid open on real paper in an envelope by mail (all done through Apple) , and gives a push notification upon delivery. Although it does not have enough number of customization options that other services have, is a convenient way to send someone a special gift in the mail.

Siri
A unique feature of the iPhone 4S, Siri is based on the IOS feature voice control while adding a lot more. I work as an AI control system comprising voice what you're saying, Siri lets you give your iPhone orders or ask questions in natural language. It's more than a "call home" voice command system, you can simply say, "Remind me to call my wife at 4:30 for dinner" and Siri responds by establishing a time schedule and repetition of the details of the event so you can confirm that you remember. Siri can also tell you to read the last text messages, and can be ordered at the home of the fastest way to your current location and other complex issues. Siri includes (most) of the questions and tries to give the best answer.
Siri offers features that anyone can appreciate who has been driving and I heard the sound of the iPhone developer text notification, for example. It also marks the beginning of a new way to interact with the iPhone, if Apple can take place. Siri is still in beta and available for users of iPhone 4S at the October 14 launch. Expect a deeper immersion in Siri once we get our hands on the iPhone 4S.
Personal Dictionary
A feature of the new keyboard shortcuts allow you to create your own personal dictionary.Although nothing new (it was first available in the Sidekick?) Now you can set keyboard shortcuts for phrases. Head of the keyboard settings> General> then scroll down to Add New Shortcut. Here you can add a phrase like "bye" and then make the shortcut "ttyl".Now, every time you type the letters in an email or text, will be specified automatically.

Alternate Routes
Another new feature that travelers will appreciate is alternate routes. When in the Maps application, you can get directions, as usual, but instead of giving only one route to your destination, the Maps application now give two alternative routes (in case of problems such as traffic or if you know about construction). Simply touch a route to find out how long it will take to reach your destination, then choose the best for your situation. In our tests here in San Francisco, the roads were solid options, and we believe this will be useful anywhere. The major disadvantage here is that once you have chosen your path, the others remain on the screen, which can be distracting.
When you get directions to a destination, you'll now have alternate routes to choose from.

A lot more
Other updates include new iPad multitasking gestures, the hourly weather forecasts, a split keyboard for the iPad, a new music application iPad, a ringtone store iTunes, reflecting AirPlay iPad iPhone 2 and 4S emoticons, Emoji, and patterns of vibration measurement.Check back for more in depth the characteristics of many of these in the coming weeks.
Conclusions
In the end, iOS 5 seems more about fixing a lot of discomfort insignificant offering completely new phone. And while we always want more, that's fine with us. In air-synchronization is probably the biggest relief for most of the owners of IOS devices, but IMessage improvements, built-in Twitter, useful, but fairly simple camera updates, and the incorporation of task management and reminders significant improvements over previous versions.
Extras added as a place for journal subscriptions and newsstand newspapers, greeting cards, and find myself with friends can be useful in some situations, but we wonder how important it is for users over time . Apple has cleverly decoupled most of these from the same IOS, giving those who want a lightweight device and robust than the option of going to look.
In general, iOS 5 is a worthy update with some new features and huge, several useful settings, and smaller additions that may not have much impact in how to use the IOS device. As a free upgrade that improves the overall experience, iOS 5 is a no-brainer for any owner of iDevice. Although we like what we expect to see adjustments in future updates to tune each of the new features a little more.
