How to Meter and manage computer use of bandwidth

Must Read

computer bandwidth usage managementUnlimited Bandwidth is the dream of every geek, but, unfortunately, not always available.Tapas are a way for service providers to get extra money from existing services, so have been many attempts to introduce some of them have stuck.

If you are in a limit, it is important to know how much bandwidth you are using. Sometimes a provider will give you a free meter, but if that is not the case, you need to check out some free team management tools for bandwidth usage.

Keeping Up With Downloads
Bandwidth of manually monitoring is virtually impossible. Individual web pages do not report their size with ease, and even if they did, there are many variables, such as streaming content, news channels automatically refreshing, and more. Software downloads are not much better. Yes, you can usually see the file size, but sometimes the files are downloaded instead of only full installers, and even if the software is complete, you may need to download an update. How not to lose sight of that?

The only way is to use a meter bandwidth that works by detecting everything from all applications, processes and services on your computer.

For Windows users, I suggest NetWorx. This free software offers a wide variety of features to help you maintain control over their Internet use. You can report and graph usage of bandwidth per day, week, month, year or custom time period.

Also included is a bandwidth speed test, and perhaps most useful of all, a feature of the quotas. This compensation allows you to set daily, weekly or monthly bandwidth. An alert can be configured to appear when a certain percentage, to know when to back in the Download button.

Mac can do it, too
Mac OS X users can use SkoobySoft of SurplusMeter. It is a basic tool NetWorx as information options are less flexible and has no automatic warning fee, but does its job and, like NetWorx is free. Note that SurplusMeter is not in the Mac App Store at the time of writing this article. This utility has been around for a while, but it seems to work fine on my MacBook with OS X Lion installed.

Although this is a very useful tool, it was not able to find one that reports of bandwidth for all computers on a home network collectively. Tools with this capability are available, but are concentrated in a business environment rather than a home network.

Respecting your limits
Now that is one meter bandwidth, you might be wondering what you can do to reduce the amount you use. I have a couple of tips.

Do not Watch Video HD - number of pixels in an image rises exponentially as the resolution increases. A video in 360p has 194,400 pixels, but 720p has 921,600 pixels, and 1080p is an amazing 2,073,600 pixels. Compression techniques reducing the consumption of bandwidth, but do not recognize the fact that under the video resolution is more efficient.

Buy commercial software versions in the store whenever possible - yes, you should buy a new title of steam, but a game with modern 3D graphics easily weigh more than 10 GB.

Use a firewall - and do not provide the software you have permission to dispense with it automatically. This will prevent programs from downloading automatic updates without your knowledge.

One tactic that does not provide much benefit is Flash blocking, script blocking or ad blocking. The use of extensions to the browser to stop the content often does not prevent the content is sent to your computer. That simply is not displayed. In addition, the amount of bandwidth used by Flash and its competitors is usually small, unless used to display HD video or play a game online.
Do you have superior computer boards of bandwidth usage? Well, that's what the comments section is for! I like the software described in this article - particularly NetWorx - but readers are invited to offer their own suggestions.
